Hurricanes, fires, and other natural disasters strike American cities every year. The recent landfall of Hurricane Florence led to extreme devastation and flooding in the Carolinas, Virginia, and surrounding areas where over 1 million residents were ordered to evacuate ahead of the storm.

While many displaced individuals and families have no problem paying for a hotel or driving out of town to stay with a relative or friend, not all have quick access to those resources. 40% of Americans can't afford a $400 emergency from savings according to the Federal Reserve, and it often costs a lot more than $400 to get out of the way and clean up from a hurricane. Not to mention, many, nearly 60% of the workers, who have hourly jobs, don’t get paid when their place of work is closed or they miss their shift.

PayActiv is working with several of its partners including Comfort Keepers, Sun Com Mobile, Walmart, and major call centers in the Carolinas, Virginia, and surrounding areas to offer instant access to $200 at no fees and irrespective of the hours worked so their employees can get the money they need to buy gas, food, and shelter while they wait to get back to work.

PayActiv first created an 'emergency' service for their members in Baton Rouge General Hospital during the 2016 floods in Louisiana, and last year the program was extended to the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey.
