Why do we work?
Sure, we work because we need roofs over our heads and food in our bellies. We also work because a job offers a sense of purpose and directedness in life. It makes us feel that we have contributed to something. Work also brings us a sense of dignity and accomplishment. A job gives us opportunities to learn our strengths and discover our potential, sometimes leading us to become experts or masters.
In summary, work allows us to do more than earn a living.
PayActiv believes that all workers should be able to live the life they’ve earned, whatever lifestyle that may be, or whatever you may one day want it to be. This stems from our core belief that people and economies flourish when everyone is able to fully participate.
By getting you access to the money you’ve already earned when you need it, you have flexibility. With flexibility comes freedom. Freedom is what allows us to each live the lives we’ve earned. We can’t predict what life has in store for you each week, but we can help you navigate it.
How did these ideas spring forth and become reality? We kept asking ourselves how we can make a positive future for people seem both possible and effortless, especially when people are financially stressed. Once we realized that PayActiv was about helping workers to participate in the economy they helped create, that was the key to approaching your company’s management and asking them to let us serve you.
We wanted to offer more. We wanted to offer services that would streamline your life, and give you more time and flexibility.
Many users asked us to provide automatic bill pay, so they could use their accessed wages to pay bills on time and avoid late fees.
We also were able to establish a discounted prescription marketplace where users could purchase discounted medications. This was a high priority for PayActiv, because health care costs continue to rise, as do deductibles. We believed it was critical for people to have access to medications for both one-time and repeat use, because living the life you’ve earned is much easier when you feel and are healthy.
Many users wanted resources to get a firmer handle on their personal finances. Because our nation does not offer personal finance classes in high school or college, we chose to offer free one-on-one financial counseling.
We were proud to partner with Uber, so as to offer rides using earned wages from directly in the app. Many employers asked for this because employees might be unable to get to work if their car broke down. Employees were relieved not to have to miss work as a result of this feature. We never expected that this feature would become a critical part of getting users to work because COVID-19 shut down public transportation.
Helping you and the communities you live and work in are part of our mission as a Public Benefit Corporation, so we are proud that PayActiv aims to smooth out the unpredictability of life — so all workers can live the lives we’ve earned.
